Weaving in the works
Fighting the coastal winds again with a scarf as my shield, I find myself in lack of a variety of them. In a shop last week I saw a woven scarf and felt like I had never seen such a thing. In all my days of weaving it had never dawned upon me to weave one. I had always made wall hangings and things for viewing only, and thought of scarves as fabric or knit or crochet, but never really thought that a good portion of that fabric making up the scarves is woven. Duh, so why not weave my own. Well, here it is, in the works.
29 and feelin' fine
Twenty-nine strong on my crochet patches. Right now it looks like a welcome mat, but if I keep a rate of a few patches a day, I should be done soon.

I'm hooked
Since the first crochet hook carving went so successfully, I decided to make another, this time smaller. The size difference is allowing me to do way more detail and much more intricate work, so I've been testing out some flower designs, just from my sketches, and attempting to go vaguely by the book. Here are the first two tries. They definitely need some work, but not too shabby for a less than amateur crocheter.

Sketching Wretch
One of those days where you cut your hair on a whim and reflect. I just so happen to be sitting on the toilet and gazing into the trash can while "reflecting".
Also, Etching!
This is my semester in heaven, I have both a silk screening class, and an intaglio class, so its pretty much print all the time. With intaglio, it's an oil based ink that gets pushed into grooves in the plate. Our first assignment for the class was a dry point, drawing right into the copper plate. I got to experiment with an electric etcher, it made some interesting lines and was super easy to use.
My sketch is of the entrance to my house. I drew it correctly in the plate, not thinking that when I print it, it will be a mirror image. I'm okay with that though, the composition works either way but I'm still working on the plate itself. Will add more as the printing continues!

Pressed prints
Started my silk screen class last week, and this is what I have so far. This is my first time using the emulsion process, I'm hooked already. I exposed a few pressed flowers on one side of my screen, and on the other my drawings of each of the plants. I've printed about two dozen of each of these so far, first the flower its self, then my interpretation of it on top. There are still a couple other flowers I have yet to print, but this is where I stand thus far.

| Both layers; the petals were too translucent for the actual flower, so only my drawing and the center were exposed. |

Not so kitsch in the kitchen
Crochet squares for a multi-medium quilt? What ever this turns into be, my home made hook works quite well.

Desperate times, call for desperate measures
The urge to crochet, ideas buzzing, twirling around, needing to be produced, and yet no crochet hook. What is a girl to do? Carve a hook out of an old paint brush, thats what. Filed it smooth with my nail file, and finally all these weeks of sketching and brain storming can begin. These waves are necessary, ebbs and flows of physical and mental work. Its all productivity.
